CLINICAL HEALTH CLASS |
The Clinical health class is the second class in the Healthcare profession progression. As such the core class is a pre-requisite for this class. This class expands and builds on the core class learning and includes more hands-on and career specific tasks than the core class.
Clinical Health is designed for students interested in health services careers. Using the major body systems as the framework, students will learn about diseases, disorders, prevention and treatment and the roles of the various healthcare providers involved in diagnosis and/or treatment. This course will combine content knowledge (body systems, communication, safety practices, legal issues, ethical concerns, healthcare systems) and basic skills common to all healthcare professions with work-based learning experiences that will result in a career selection consistent with the student's aptitude, interest, abilities and academic achievement. |
AcademicsStudents will use the text, , hear current articles, multimedia and lectures by the instructor and guest lecturers to develop their understanding of health care as a whole and their chosen career. Students will explore in greater depth medical, ethical, legal and social issues in medicine. Syllabus located here.

SkillsStudents will learn basic first aid, CPR and patient assessment skills, focusing on personal and patient safety and professional conduct.Students will learn more advanced techniques in first aid, CPR, patient assessment, patient safety and professional conduct. This includes wound care, splinting, patient intake and record keeping, and triaging in a mass casualty situation.

CareersStudents will perform job-related specific tasks to learn in greater detail the career role in patient care, and be able to troubleshoot potential problems. These will include careers in records and billing, dentistry, veterinary sciences, clinical laboratory, nursing, imaging and x-ray, sports medicine, dietary science, and emergency medicine. They Will also conduct research on 2-3 career options including college choices, pay, benefits, job responsibilities and career options.
